It will not ordinarily be considered the best game in the realm of gambling, but keno has millions and millions of devoted players. And why not? It’s a constantly thrilling lottery-ish game that’s uncomplicated to pickup, abundantly available in a number of alternate formats, and one that can pay out millions for players who learn its uncounted subtle intricacies. But let’s deal with the beginner’s rules here.
When describing keno to novices, some wagering connoisseurs compare it to lotto. This is at least nearly apt, in that both games are essentially numerical. But to carry that comparison too far will be to downplay the great many unique aspect that make keno so fun. Not like bingo, keno gamblers have the power to choose the numbers for each card.
Keno cards have a grand total of eighty numbers, but the player is furnished with an additional level of personal responsibility by being able to choose as numerous (or as few) numbers as he or she wants. And it doesn’t take a genius to come up with how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark each of your selected numbers with a normalball point pen like you had when you were a kid.
After you’ve checked your numbers, carry your keno card back to the clerk at the keno stand. The keno pit manager will record your numbers and then hand you a receipt. Do not drop this (potentially) lucrative bit of paper! Even if the clerk remembers your face and would like to help out, without a winning ticket in hand, you will collect exactly $.00 for your time spent.
OK, so there you have strategy numero uno: always take care to keep your keno receipt. Let’s advance to something a tiny bit more complicated, ok?
Now that you’ve picked your numbers, get into a comfortable keno booth and see the action unfold on a big video monitor. That’s where the winning numbers are shown for us. If you selected winning numbers, mark your card accordingly. Make sure not to dally, or sit there congratulating yourself for an obnoxious length of time. You want to get up to the keno booth to get your winnings, and a new keno game will almost certainly start up within 5 minutes.
Strategy #2: always be sure to get back to the keno stand on time!
Assuming you can’t trust yourself to meet that five-minute deadline every time, you always have the option of purchasing a "multi-race" card. These include the self same set of your chosen numbers on anywhere from 2 to 20 cards. When the max amount of keno games (the same as the number of tickets) is finished, you may then get off your lazy rump and go collect your winnings.
Yet another alternative is recognized as a "stray and play" keno slip, which normally allows you make number choices for 30 keno games or more. Golly, you can take an ocean cruise and not have to worry about getting back in time to retrieve your winnings. Most "stray and play" game tickets are good for up to a whole year after it’s purchased!
So now you are aware of several required techniques for winning keno. If you are an accomplished user, they may seem quite obvious. But it does not hurt to brush up on the basic practices, and if you are a newbie player, every tiny bit of advice will help make your keno playing time more exciting.
